| Meet the Certified Nurse Midwives |
| Angel J. Miller, CNM, MSN I have been practicing midwifery since 1997, when I received my certification from the Frontier School of Midwifery and Family Nursing in Kentucky. I worked for many years as a labor and delivery nurse at a teaching institution prior to becoming a midwife, and successfully co-founded an independent nurse-midwifery practice in Ohio in 2002. Prior to my midwifery education, I was on the transplant team at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation and had the privilege of seeing the miracle of saving lives. But women's health was my calling and I pride myself in offering women choices in their health care. I am a strong advocate for women having options and participation in their healthcare. I recently co-authored "9 Months In ~ 9 Months Out," a resource guide throughout pregnancy and through 9 months of a mother's postpartum period. In my free time, I love to blog, connect on Twitter and LinkedIn and love to dance and travel! I have a very supportive husband, two wonderful sons, and "Bear," our 6 year old German Shepherd. | Where are they now??? Karen Brindle, CNM has recently left MCA and has found a practice closer to her home. She has been a great asset to Midwifery Care Associates and has been with the practice since its inception in May 2007. She is also one of the midwives that was at The Maternity Center and brought many babies into the world. Karen commuted from PA. for over 5 years and we appreciate the time she has dedicated to this practice. We will miss Karen and wish her well !! |
| Dorothy Pointer, CNM, MSN Midwifery care is special to me, having birthed two of my children at a birth center. I feel like I have finally "come home" to a career I love. It Thrills me to be able to participate in the growing of families and to partner with women in their healthcare. I received my midwifery education at Frontier School of Midwifery and Family Nursing while working as a labor and delivery nurse. I am new to Maryland, having left a terrific midwifery practice in Oklahoma to come here to be with my new husband. I am "mom" to four grown children and "grandmommie" to to five and have acquired two more grand people with two on the way with my marriage. My husband and I live with a vintage black lab, "Puddy." | Caitlin Phillips LeGros, CNM, MSN I decided to be a midwife twice. The first time I was 3 years old and asked the midwife to see my brother's placenta instead of him. The second time was in the Peace Corps when I saw how intimate and protected birth could be with midwives, even if it was in a room with a light bulb hanging from the ceiling. Like millions of other people, I believe birth is normal and everyone should have access to the best midwives! I worked as a labor and delivery nurse at a high-risk hospital before going to midwifery school at the University of Pennsylvania. I specifically chose to do my final integration semester of midwifery school abroad in New Zealand (debatably the best maternity care system in the world) where the majority of births are with midwives and are unmedicated.I am excited to join the practice and meet all of you! | Tara Smith, CNM, MSN I have been hooked on pregnant women and birth since the age of 8 when I felt my then 31 week cousin kick me through my aunt's belly. However, I took a bit of a roundabout route to becoming a midwife, dabbling first in Latin American studies and international studies before finally returning to my original dream and matriculating at the Frontier School of Midwifery and Family Nursing. I have been a certified nurse midwife since 2004 and recently moved (back) to the DC area after spending most of my eight years as a midwife in Norfolk, VA. When I am not midwifing, I like to read, dance and cook. I have two beautiful children, both born with midwives ( including one water-fabulous!) and a very supportive husband and mother who make my work possible. I look forward to getting to know the mothers and families of MCA. E-Mail: Tara@midwiferycareassociates.com |
